Freezy Friday Giveaway! 22nd August 2008

The only thing better than a weekend is a long weekend (and a holiday and I’m guessing retirement rocks more than the weekend too, but that, my friends, is beside the point ) and by all accounts, it looks like the weather is going to behave too.

Excellent. The only thing missing from your life is free stuff. Let me set about correcting that for you.

Random Free Samples
I’ve found a company who will send you free stuff in the post. You try it out. Fill in a short survey. They take a random cross-section of people, so you don’t necessarily get every item they test, but imagine waking up in 8 weeks time, by when it will be well and truly autumn. It’s raining outside. The wind is rattling your windows and the postman sticks through a free Kinder Bueno to try. It wouldn’t be difficult to fill out the questionnaire, you would just have to write: “Yummy!”

These are some recent things they claim to have sent…

* Diadermine Fresh Skin Purifying Facial Strips
* New White Chocolate Ferraro Kinder Bueno
* Kellogg's cereals CHOCOS
* PC connection USB Mobile Phone charger
* Nivea Seduction Make Up Kit: Black Mascara and tasty lip gloss
* Scotch Brite Clothes Cleaning Adhesive Roller
* Nescafé: Espresso made from finest Arabica Coffee beans
* Fer a cheval: genuine Marseille cream

I got sent the Nivea Seduction Make Up Kit, and have to say, it works a treat, I am fighting the blokes off because I am so seductive. Come on, ‘oo wants a kiss from me, eh?

Free Shawshank Redemption DVD
“Wait.” I hear you cry “for this is not the first time you’ve told us about free DVD’s” and you’re right. The last one, a few weeks back was about some free DVD Rentals. This one, you just get 4 free DVD’s, including the Shawshank Redemption – a classic.

I saw this a couple of weeks back but didn’t think I’d post it as it looked a bit dodgy. But I’ve been checking it out. Basically you are permitting them to mail you with some junk mail. You can, however, withdraw your permission to be advertised too and this will stop the junk mail – but you know, you’re getting 4 DVD’s so I’d suggest sticking with a months worth of the old junk mail. Just to say thanks. Oh, you will, as part of that junk mail, get another free DVD. The quality seems ok too, but them, I am a huge fan of Mean Girls.

Woof Woof Woof! Free Dog stuff
One complaint we never get here at Freezy is we don’t give stuff away for Dog. “Give me some free dog stuff” you haven’t ever said. So, to ensure it is not a complaint we get , here is some food for your canine chum, courtesy of our friends* at Eukunuba (that’s pronounced You-Can-Noo-Bah)

http://kit.eukanuba.com/html/eukanuba/i ... &pi=0&ord=

We don’t have any friends at Eukanuba. Or any other pet food suppliers come to that.

Miaow Miaow Miaow! Kitten food.
Now, you know us. We don’t like to be controversial and we realize that for everyone who likes those cute, dumb adorable puppy dogs, mans best friend some say - someone else likes cats. Ok.

So here’s some free kitten food. I would explain it, but I think the eloquence of those chaps at Felix really does is all the justice it needs…

“Watching your kitten start out on life's incredible journey is both exciting and a little daunting. The new FELIX Kitten Pack - complete with money saving offers on Felix's favourite food, essential kitten information and a little kitten toy - can help him find his feet..Get your Kitten Pack today on our Kitten Pack page, or get a head-start with the Good Kitten Guide.”
Err. Ok.

Kemp Music
Ahh, remember from back in the 90’s, Kemp? Awesome Meldoy-driven rock? No? Ok, well, they were my band. We thought we rocked.

I’ve put some songs on mySpace and you are welcome to download them for free.

Ok, not the best free stuff, more like a shameless plug but hey, it’s still free! Let me know what you think – hello@freezy.co.uk

Right, that’s in for another week. A long weekend awaits! Yay! The next Bank Holiday is Christmas. Wow.

Whatever you’re doing, enjoy it! And if anyone wants a Dishwasher, there’s one right there on Freezy so just go to Freezy.co.uk. That’s awesome!

Ciao ciao, darrrling,
Dave

Post Code Bug

Just a quick note:

When doing a postcode search, you have to include the space in your postcode, otherwise our search engine won't find it.

So basically, it's SO23 8GH, not SO238gh or and pa15df should be PA1 5DF

Dya git ma?!

If it still doesn't work drop us a line at support@freezy.co.uk and we'll fix it pronto.
Dave

Stepping up...

Evenin' all.

Firstly, thanks and welcome to those who've signed up and especially those who are posting items. We're really pleased people are using the site and if you have any questions, just drop us a line at hello@freezy.co.uk - we love hearing from you!

I just wanted to post an update on where we are with the site launch. We are 2/3rds of the way through August and we are half way towards achiving our initial objective of 1000 unique page views in the first month. That basically means, roughly 1000 different people will have visted Freezy, which will have been fantastic and as more people visit the site, they will spread the word and the numbers will continue to grow.

It's not easy getting people onto the site. The internet is huge and everyday you see another URL somewhere telling you of another site that offers to change your life and I think we are slowly becoming accustomed to ignoring them, so every time someone new logs on, I feel warm and happy.

We split our traffic into 3 areas -
  • Direct traffic (when you type http://www.freezy.co.uk/ into your Browser)
  • Reffering Sites (when you click on a link on another web site)
  • Search (Well, you seem clever enough to figure that one out ;))
We are getting slightly more from search,. because of the carefully targetting adverts - but ghenerally, it's split almost completley 1/3rd, 1/3rd, 1/3rd which again is cool, it's nice to have a spread because it means you just keep targetting different areas.

Basically, it's going very well. Very well indeed.

But we will still keep trying to get new people onto the site. We won't stop! But if you want to help, there are two things you can do that would be jolly helpful.

  1. Tell your mates. Just tell them the name. We picked a URL that would be easy to remember so you can just say to a mate 'Stick it on Freezy'.
  2. Stick a link on your site, or in your blog. This helps us two ways. Firstly, and perhaps most obviously, it means people visiting your site will see the link and pay us a visit but also Google and other search engines favour sites with more links on other sites, so it boosts us there too.

But even just popping back occasionally is great. As I said earlier in this post, if you have any questions, suggestions, or just want to say Hi, drop us a line at hello@freezy.co.uk

Until next time...
Dave

Freezy Friday Giveaway! 15 Aug 2008

Here’s a Freezy Fact for you: the third most popular search term to Freezy is Free Porn. Great. It takes a certain kind of someone to type that into Google in the hope of some costless erotica, I mean it’s not like it’s difficult to find. In fact I finder it harder to avoid than it is to find, but that’s because, having been friends with Ant for 10 years, I know where it’s all at.
Anyway, there’s none of that in this weeks fantastic Freezy Friday Giveaway, no siree bob, there is however, some free stuff for Mum’s, some stuff that’ll make you hair look nice and of course…

Free Babies Nappies
When you become a parent you get asked ‘Disposable or Reusable nappies?’ ‘Errm. Disposable’ you say. ‘OH MY GOD I CAN NOT BELIEVE YOU. DID YOU KNOW THOSE NAPPIES GET PUT INTO LANDFILLS AND TAKE LONGER THAN ANYTHING ELSE KNOWN TO MANKIND TO ROT?’ says someone so you go ‘Oh ok, I’ll use reusable ones ‘OH MY GOD YOU ARE SO THICK. THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY YOU SPEND WASHING THEM IS WORSE THAN ANY AMOUNT THROWN INTO A LANDFILL YOU IDIOT.

You can’t win.

Until now.

Econappies are disposable ones that rot really quickly apparently. And, you can get yourself a ton of free samples too, which, let’s face it, is the best thing.

Just go to http://www.spiritofnature.co.uk/ and type ‘free sample’ into the search and pick the sizes you want. Free P/P too. Awesome.

Free Nappy Rash Cream

Now the danger of course of using different nappies is that they might give your baby nappy rash. Ouchie. But that’s ok, cos you can also get yourself some free Bepanthen just by carrying out a simple survey

http://www.bepanthen.co.uk/survey/index.php

Right, time for something a little more manly….

A Free Wilkinson Sword Razor

This is one of those simple ones. You fill in your details, they send you a free Razor. I got one of these last week and have to say I was impressed. Not quite the best a man can get, but pretty fine none the less.

http://www.wilkinsonsword.co.uk/men/showroom/quattro_titanium_precision/sharp_shaver/sample

Ok, we’ve done something for the kids, something for the Dad’s… anyone feeling a bit left out?! Ok Mum’s…

Free Foot things…

I think you just have to send a SAE to the address and you get your free samples in the post. Supposed to be quite good too. I wouldn’t know, I am far too much of a man to use these. Anyone fancy a beer? Grrrr.

http://www.lookafteryourfeet.com/freeflexitol.htm

Free Mascara

Ok, just because the other one involved a bit of effort, I thought I would let you know about this one. If you’re out and about at the weekend, and you’re near your local Debenhams store, if you go to the Chanel counter and they will give you a free sample of their new mascara. Now, I buy Chanel stuff for my Mrs some time so if they give you 1g of free mascara, that’s worth roughly* £800.

Sorry, no link for this one…

*Estimating. Actual value may be considerably less.

Free Popping Candy
Remember this stuff from school? You out it on your tongue and you feel like there’s a mini South Ossetia right on your tongue. The sensation was horrible and the sweets were horrible but you still bought them, cos your mates bought them.

Well, so long as you don’t mind doing the whole subscribe/ unsubscribe thing, you can now get a packet of popping candy… for free! Oh my old school friends will be so jealous when they find out that I got this!!

http://www.shinyshack.com/freecandy.php

Right, that’s all for this week. Look out for more updates this week as we continue to tune the site. Just another reminder to set yourself up with some alerts for your area. This means you don’t have to keep checking back to see if there’s anything new in your area (although we would love to see you!)– we’ll E mail you as soon as it appears. Also means you won’t miss out one something you want as you’ll be the first to know.

Until next time…
Dave

Wednesday, 13 August 2008

Welcome, again!

Firstly, I just want to say hello to all of our new users who’ve joined us over the last week or so, it’s great to see so many people joining the site as I’m guessing you’re joining because you like the idea of the site and that makes us feel warm inside.

We are still having a bit of difficulty getting people to list things on the site. But that’s to be expected, I mean this is a fairly alien concept to people. But hopefully, we’ll see this pick up over the next few weeks.

With some local papers here in Hampshire running stories on Freezy this week, I’ve kicked off the GoogleAds again and that has seen quite a steady flow of traffic coming onto the site, which means I can play my addictive game of ‘What search terms bring people to Freezy”. I’ve figured out how to disable the word ‘porn’ form the search terms now, but it still throws up some gooduns (‘Crazy dumper’ anyone?).

What is pleasing is a lot of people are now entering the site after searching for ‘Freezy’. That’s cool, as it means the name must be spreading.

The other thing that I really really really have to encourage you to do is to set up ‘watches’ for your area. These are really cool.

It basically means you don’t have to come back and check the site to see if there’s been anything added in your area – you automatically get an E mail message whenever anything is added within whatever distance you specify. Check out Kez’s post below called “New feature: Listing watches” which tells you how to do it. It’s bloomin’ simple.

That’s it for now. Don’t feel like I’ve said a whole lot, just thought I should write something as the blog is still the 3rd most popular referral site to Freezy, and I don’t want you to think I’ve forgotten about you.

See you all soon!
Dave

Freezy Friday Giveaway! 08 August 2008

Ahh, I love doing the Friday Giveaway for the simple reason, it means it’s Friday. Awesome. And what better way to start the day with another load of free stuff, and what better way to kick off the weekend that with a refreshing bottle of free Vodka…

Yes, that’s right, free Vodka!
Ok, just follow these instructions, as posted by them lovely chaps over at http://bobsfreestuffforum.co.uk/ :-

“Click the free drinks link under their product range on the left hand side of the landing page and then add the free vodka to your basket.
Click checkout and then either register or login to get the freebie. There may be a little problem with the form if you were born on a day later than the 12th of a month because they have made a mistake in their coding. If this happens just say you were born at some point before the 12th of whatever month.”
http://www.dinkydrinksminiaturewhisky.co.uk/

Ps. If you’re under 18 then don’t send for this, otherwise we’ll tell you the truth about Santa.

Free and legal music from Keane
Woah. This is a fresh new sound from those posh, piano loving chaps from Keane. I wasn’t sure when I first heard it but this really is a grower.

http://www.keanemusic.com

Free DVD Offers
Lots of companies are trying to find innovative new ways to get people to rent DVD’s without having to go to Blockbuster, LoveFilm being one of the more successful companies.

This site lists the companies that offer free, no obligation offers that you can sign up too and nab yourself a free rental DVD or 2. Just remember to read any small print as you will probably have to physically cancel your subscription once you’ve had your free DVD’s.

http://www.dvdzero.co.uk

Better than free – get paid to eat and drink!
Once upon a time, someone dreamt up the idea of the Chocolate Digestive. I’m pleased cos I love ‘em. However, before they went on sale, they probably had a few people try them out to make sure they were as nice as possible.

This company is looking for people to test some food and drinks. Basically, they send you out an invite and you go along for a period of time, where you try the food and drinks, you then discuss in a group (in my head, this is a bunch of eloquent country gentlemen talking about the bouquet of some exotic fruit drink and how it compliments the exquisite chocolate that has been hand prepared by some Belgian nuns – in reality, it’s probably a bunch of students). You then have to fill out a survey and so they can see the general feedback. However, here’s the cool thing, they pay you for your troubles. So you leave with a full belly and a full wallet. Cool.

http://www.campden.co.uk/consumerpanel/welcome.htm

Oh, I haven’t got a clue what the sort of food is so if you go and are asked to test caramelised locust and purified bats urine, don’t blame me!

Free Jelly Belly Sweeties…
We used to have a Jelly Belly shop in town. You could get recipe cards which were like “Have 2 banana, 1 toffee, one whipped cream” and it would taste exactly like banoffee pie. The shop closed down ages ago (I’m not surprised - a business model based around selling Jelly Beans to kids in a town with the highest rental prices outside London is probably not the most assured retail business model). Anyway, what’s my point… oh, yeah, you can get free Jelly Belly Jelly Beans.

Small limitation in that the survey is only open to the first 100 people per day – but it tells you at the start if they have had over 100 – so it’s not like you have to fill it in and then they go ‘Ohhh, sorry! Close but no Jelly Bean’, which is nice.

http://www.jellybelly-uk.com/cgi-bin/jb/survey.pl

That’s it for another week of free stuff. There really is loads of stuff out there, so if you think of anything that might be useful for our readers, feel free to let us know!

Have a great weekend!
Dave

Ps. There is another great site that I came across. It’s not generally free stuff (although they do occasionally give stuff away) but it normally sells stuff agonisingly cheap for a limited time only. It’s worth just checking occasionally to see what’s going. Even if it’s not free, it will normally be superb value.

New feature: Listing watches

I've just finished working on a new feature for Freezy. It allows you to setup "listing watches" so that when a new listing is added to the site within a specified distance of where you live, you can immediately get an e-mail with the details.

We're letting you set a distance radius of between 5 and 100 miles (at given intervals) - we had to be careful in not letting you set, say, 1000 miles, as everyone would get an e-mail everytime a listing is added!

To see more about these listing watches, you need to login (or register then login) and go to "Edit my profile"and click on the green link "new watch".

Early adopters will benefit here, as the people who setup their listing watches first will get the e-mail first - all important in the race to claim a real freezy bargain!

Also thrown in another few new features, stability fixes and improvements - most of them under the hood; so you shouldn't directly notice them!

Cheers,

kez.

Freezy's First Weekend

Well, what a busy first weekend of Freezying! Loads of interesting stats coming up from the number monkey, and I thought I would share some with you.

And by you, I mean YOU - the people reading this blog, which is rather more than I had first thought but very pleasing none the less.

Over the first weekend (well, since Friday morning) we have had a whopping 891 pageviews to the site. That's not necessarily 891 people, cos some of you just keep coming back (and we love you!) - but that number is still fantastic!

So, where are these people coming from, huh? Well, the breakdown, for yesterday (Aug 2) is:-

Google - 24.36%
This Blog - 15.38%
AOL Search - 8.97%
Ask - 6.41%

It is expected that Google will bring a lot of traffic - the interesting thing is the keywords they types into Google that got them to Freezy.

The top searches

"Free" - just that word, brought us 10.26% of our traffic which is fine, as that is the ethos of the site. However, that's exactly the same percentage as people who arrived as the result of typing in 'Free porn'. Another biggie was Freecycle (7.69%).

Some strange ones too, but none stranger than 1 person who arrived at the site from Google as a result of the search term "big brother sex free". Hi!

I am getting addicted to the numbers though, something Mrs Green loves!

Things are picking up, now all I need to do is convince a few people to stick more stuff on the site to give away. Everything that's been put on there so far has gone within an hour or so!

I think it's innate in our nature to be a little skeptical of things like this or to wait and see how popular it is. But all I can say is - what have you got to lose!

Good seeing you again, and feel free to head over to www.freezy.co.uk whenever you want, to give something away, or to get yourself some cool free stuff.

Cheers!
Dave

Ps. I love getting comments on my blogs ;)

Each Friday, I will bring you some of the best Free offers on the Internet. Thi stuff is really free, although maybe a condition or two attached. Each offer is different, but generalyl, it's just promotional stuff, worth a look!

This weeks tip top offers are:-

Unlimited Free Music to Download and Keep. Forever!
For the last 10 years the music industry has tried tirelessly to stop people file-sharing. Now, they've found a way to legitamise it. And they WANT you to do it.

Qtrax http://www.qtrax.com is a brand new site that allows you to download, and share music by new and established artists free of charge. That's right, free. Ok, you might have to endure a bit of advertising here and there, but hey, someone's gotta pay for those guitars.

So far, it's been endorsed by EMI, Sony BMG, Universal and Warner Music. Advertisers who've signed up include Ford, McDonalds and some computer company called Microsoft which legitamises it somewhat.

http://www.qtrax.com

Business is picking up

Well, it's quite nice, since we moved the site to Live yesterday traffic has been picking up quite nicely. Incedible really, seeing as though we haven't even started publishing anything abut the site. I thought, maybe it was people who arrive at the blog randomly just clicking through but then I realised, there is nothing on here that would give the address away (If you're wondering it's http://www.freezy.co.uk/ :) so I don't know where it is. No-one has posted anything yet, but that's understandable really.

Overall, I'm really starting to love the look of the site.

I've sent out all the press releases today so maybe we'll hear back from some of them tomorrow, although I bet they get thousands of those sorts of mails every day - gotta be worth a shot though.

And you can help too. However you've come across this blog, head on over the www.freezy.co.uk and add some stuff! Even if you've just fallen onto this by the random blogger mail, you've found us on Google, whatever, it doesn't matter. Our aim was to create a site that could be used by EVERYONE in the Britain so don't be shy! Sign up early whilst all the good names are still available!

Hopefully, we'll get some good press in the next week or two two really kick start things.

Cheers for now!

Welcome to Freezy!

Hello there. Thanks for stopping by!

Welcome to Freezy. I thought I'd start by telling you the how and why of the site. It's quite easy really. Two things are causing us a headache right now.

1. The Credit Crunch. I don't know why it's called the Credit Crunch. it's a stupid name really cos most of our monetary worries aren't related to credit. It's tax. And inflation. And the cost of oil and food. It all means we don't have quite so much spare cash in the old wallet anymore so some free stuff is quite cool. Should really be called the disposable income crunch.

2. Carbon Footprints and stuff. Yeah, apparently we should all reduce our carbon footprint and hug trees and stuff :) Ok, so I'm no hippie, but the "green agenda" is basically about less waste and what could be easier, rather than throwing stuff away and sticking it in a landfill than to give it away to someone who needs it? Doing your bit for the planet + Instant good Karma = Good.

And also, if you're like me (a bit lazy), you'd probably be happy about the fact that someone will come and remove your item for you. No need to hire a skip, or drag it down the tip or whatever... Everyone's a winner!

So, welcome to Freezy. Thanks for using the site and please leave us any comments or feedback. We want to keep improving the site and can't make it any better if you don't tell us how. We're a bit thick like that.

Dave & Kez.
